A little love on Flashback Friday

Edited to show you the snafu (below).

Meg is someone I read pretty regularly (if you can call a few checks a day for new content regularly). She encouraged her readers to make a love list, and you all know how I love a little encouragement. I appreciate the reminder to look at how many wonderful things there are in your life and allow them to dwarf all the others.

Things I love
Sun over the ocean
Toes in the sand
Sitting back in a beach chair watching the waves come in
The smooth feel of pen on paper
Grandma B's white hair
Road trips
Hot from the oven cookies
Thunderstorms
Mysteries
Cut flowers
Drive-in movies
Snuggling with Ty
Nightly read-aloud time
My melt-into-me mattress
Combining colors, patterns, warmth, and stitches
Airport hot chocolate topped with ice cream
Glossy photos in a home magazine
The smell of my toddler, fresh from the tub
Reading by flashlight on the tramp
Laughing hard enough to wish for a Depends
Curling up with a good book and an old quilt on an overcast day
Merry-go-rounds
Splashing in puddles
Feeling like a kid again

How about you? What do you love?

This past week I've pulled out my trusty Bernina and my arsenal of fabric to finish some projects that have been hanging around. In honor of actually having a hobby again, our Flashback Friday is a picture of a quilt I made for a dear friend when she was diagnosed with colon cancer.

The Japanese say you should never make a perfect quilt, because your gift should not be better than the recipient. If you look closely, you will find that I am in no danger of offending anyone (rather a big booboo), but it truly is the thought that counts and a lot of loving ones went into this quilt.

The mistake is in this block. All the parts between the arms of the X were supposed to look like the picture to the left. Instead, it's like that game on Sesame Street: "Which of these things is not like the other?" But I love it anyway.

Someone also told me never to point out your mistakes because most people wouldn't notice to begin with! Lovely quilt.

I also like the idea of a love list. It goes right along with what I am going to post for SHS which won't be until later but I'll probably be linking to this post.

i want to know what the mistake is. It probably involves technical quilting terms I wouldn't know, anyway.
Once, many years ago when I was about 13 a Laurel I knew was making a banner of some kind for a YW project. On it she had cross-stitched: The glory of God is intelligent.
I pointed that out to her. Was that wrong?

Okay no matter how close I look I can't see any boo boo! It's a beautiful quilt :)

Montse - good point. I tend to be very visual and notice things like that. Sometimes it's better to just cross your eyes a bit and enjoy the overall effect rather than the details.

Lizard - (don't kill me for that moniker) I'm the wrong person to ask. I once pointed out a boo boo to a friend who had brought the finished (read already quilted & to late to do anything about)gift for her husband. I felt terrible.

Kansas-Thank you. I edited the post just for you.

Now, what all do you guys love? Rachel B. I know you're reading (cuz you told me so) so comment already.;)

Oh you can only see that error if you're looking for it.
That quilt is gorgeous. If you sold it I would buy it (assuming I had the dough at the time anyway).
What a talent!
I am very slowly teaching myself to sew. Maybe someday I'll be able to assemble an entire quilt.

Things I love:

Warm rain showers
Thunder Storms
Gusting winds thrashing the trees about
The smell of my 3 month old
Baking and cooking from scratch
Reading to my kids
Reading in general
Playing the Piano
Butterflies
Road trips
Being silly
Antique shops
Cemeteries
Long hot showers
The smell of rain
Warm pavement under my bare feet

That's all I can think of right now. :)
